If you own a house that was built in the '80's chances are you have one of these beauties.
We are redecorating our dining room right now and decided it was time for a change. Not exactly a buy-a-new-light-fixture kind of change, but one more in the $4 range! Rust-oleum makes a spray paint that has a hammered finish and will cover metal without a primer. 
Feeling apprehensive about working with electricity? Don’t worry. You simply switch off the power to that room at the main electrical panel and unscrew the light fixture’s wires. Once your light fixture is down, all you have to do is rough up the surface with a fine sanding block, wipe off the dust, and then apply two or three coats of spray paint. Be sure to allow plenty of time for the paint to dry between coats, reattach the electrical wires, then turn on the power. That's it! 
And for only $4 I'd say that we successfully saved a light!

ReplyDeleteWhat a great save! I think I'll be looking for something like that for Greta's room. I've seen them painted really funky colors with pearls draped from them to decorate little girl's rooms.
